I was a big Nancy Drew reader, but I have to agree with Laura.. she was too perfect. Never a hair out of place or a mistake made. Harrumph.

I will always have a soft spot for Nancy since one of the books took place in my tiny hometown.

I loved the Hardy Boys growing up, but the definitive word on these books was written by Pulitzer-winner Gene Weingarten about ten years ago. It is funny and touching and brilliant anyone who read ND or HB as a child should read it.

Weingarten was one of the best feature writers America ever had and it broke my heart to hear he'd accepted a buyout from the Washington Post last month. Just a monster loss to anyone who loves newspapers.
