I forget who recommended it to me, but it's a very gentle and encouraging book. One that I rarely see mentioned is SELF-EDITING FOR FICTION WRITERS by Dave King (no relation) and Renni Browne. Easy and fun to read, lots of practical, no-nonsense advice. Gardner had a unique understanding of the practical and inspirational aspects of process. My only caveat is the subtitle, For Young Writers, is misleading.
