Okay I promise this will be my last video-based blog post for a while, but I couldn’t resist…
As many of you know, the WGA strike recently caused the cancellation of the Golden Globes broadcast and may threaten the Oscars.
What you may not know is that the AMPTP (the producers/studios) walked away from the bargaining table 39 DAYS AGO, and they have not returned.
Here’s a look at the AMPTP’s last counterproposal, before they stormed off in a huff…
For those still confused about the underlying issues, David Letterman explains:
Looks like this thing isn’t even close to over.
With the writers refusing to write, the studios have come up with a new prime time police drama, MURDER UNSCRIPTED, starring Chris Noth, BD Wong, Eric Bogosian, Dean Winters, Kate Erbie, Peter Gerety, and Zeljko Ivanek.
And here’s a sneak-peek at the next Susan Sarandon film:
You know what? I’ve changed my mind. We don’t need scripts. All we need is great acting:
But as Hollywood moves on without the writers, we may shed a tear for the lonely scribes’ plight:
And the strike doesn’t just hurt the writers. Here’s a look:

I recently finished my first (spec) screenplay, but I'm respecting the WGA and waiting until the strike is settled to submit it anywhere.
I hope negotiations resume soon.
OK, Sean.. this was worth the wait.. this is an amazing blog. Writers, producers, editors, and anyone else who has a stake in the writers' strike, take note...
Jude - you are wise to wait.
Libby - Thanks, sorry I was late.
Sean--you can do as many video based blog posts as you like, and bless your heart, as my southern friends say.
This was epic, thanks. I don't have any screen-related projects, but I have held off on buying Seasons 1-4 of The Wire, and Season 3 of Deadwood until the strike is over. We all must sacrifice in our own way.
Sean, thanks for pulling this all together for us. And the Trevanti piece--we should all be on strike. WE should be in the streets, we should be mad as hell and not take it any more!

Ah, NETWORK, one of my all-time favorites. I watch it a couple times a year.
Thanks, Sara
New to the blog, think it's great.
Loved the 'Murder Unscripted' and if the AMPTP could get away with it, they'd try it.
The AMPTP seems to view the act of writing, the act that makes movies possible, with contempt. Which they seem to feel for everything and everyone that doesn't live in mansions in Beverly Hills and Malibu.
Welcome to The Outfit, Duncan. Pull up a chair and make yourself at home.
